Does anyone know of a detachable 1"-2" fighting butt that is compatable with the A7 reel seat? I think to modify the one that fits the A8 would overtax my dremel capabilities. Re: A7 detachable fighting butt?

Owen--I'm not aware of one myself, and just fyi the "detachable" butts for the A8/RA8 seats are really permanent ones--you epoxy them in. I've tried most of Struble's removeable fb's hoping to find a fit, but to no avail so far! We'll make a big announcement if we do come up with something, though!

John, Thanks. I have never used a Struble and they were the ones I was curious about. Just to define detachable for the rest of the readers, the Pac Bay detachable butt screws out of the epoxyed base and a small insert is available to cover the hole when the butt is not in place. I like the idea of not having to move up to the next rod tube size because of the extra length of the butt. I know I could cut the base of the blank but.......... Re: A7 detachable fighting butt?

I am having the EXACT SAME debate in regards to using a rod case that is one size up. I really like the REC fighting butts and I like the idea of using their insert hardware whether or not I will remove the butt. I don't like the idea of cutting off a section of the blank [to accomodate the inser] but that's what you'd have to so that all four pieces are the same length. The REC insert will take up 1/2" of reel seat real estate, so you'd have to cut that much off the blank. WIll this affect the action of the rod? The ability to feel through the rod? Anyone with comments, opinions, and especially working experience, please chime in. Thanks, Tony Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
