broke two inches off the tip of my 7' honey colored lami rod yesterday while fishing the owens river gorge. fell. from a rod performance standpoint how important is this 2"? should i just put another tiptop on it and fish or should i get a new tip section from lamiglass. the break was my fault for sure. don't know if i can get a replacment from lami or if it will be warranteed. i will tell them the truth about how it happened and am willing to pay for a tip section. its the 2 piece 7' 3wt. I broke off the top 3 inches of a 6' 6" graphite spinning rod. Using the excellent Ralph O'Quinn rod repair article mentioned below, I was able to make an effective repair. Use a matching thread and you will only notice the change in profile at the site of the repair. I've caught quite a few fish with that rod and it is still going strong. The Ralph O'Quinn rod repair article is wonderful resource.
Just as a side note, the rod I broke was one of an identical pair. I was able to compare a before and an after the repair. As one might expect, I could feel the extra mass of the repair when casting. It was slight, but definitely there. Good Luck Ed Re: great day for fish, bad day for rod

Unless Lamiglass wants the broken section you can have it both ways. I think the rod will be a bit stiffer, but probably not enough to require a heavier line. I would get another tip section from the factory and keep the old one (adjusting the next guide down) for nymphing or whatever. Bamboo rods are still sold with extra tips, so it is not that unusual to have an extra. Re: great day for fish, bad day for rod

I emailed lamiglas this morning and in about 3 hours had an answer. all i have to do is send the butt section to them and for a VERY reasonable charge they will fit a new tip section and send it back to me. i get to keep the old tip. considering the fact that i broke it through my own fault i am very happy with them. Hi Larry,
I am sorry to hear about your fishing rod. As a Lamiglas distributor I have been with them since 1990 and they all are super their. I haven't had one problem with their service either. You never told us how the fishing was? Good Wraps, Neal Cissel Neal's Fishing Products Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
