The cover of Mudhole's cataloge

Again I show my ignorance. On the cover of Mudhole's cataloge there are flyrods. A couple of those have cork grips that are very 'marled' in appearance...like there are voids in the cork. Is that a type of burl? What kind of cork grips are those? Is there someone that markets complete grips or is it a 'glue it up & turn it yourself' type of game?
