Well I have a few rods under my belt, now I want to fix my 1st one and make it the way I intended it to be. I removed the eyes and such, now what is the best way to remove the remnants of epoxy & permagloss?? I tried DNA and it starts to remove the green gel coat. I have nonacetone nail polish remover but that seems too weak to make a dent. Any other ideas on what to try?
Thanks Rich Re: removing U40 perma gloss

Rich,
Not too sure on this one but I did remove some permagloss from a handle without harming the wood. I used a citrus type stripper from Lowes. I had 3 coats of Permagloss on a walnut handle and it took three applications of stripper to remove it. I have also used this stripper to remove old varnish on bamboo with no harm to the rod. I would follow the directions and try it on an old section of rod before trying it on a good rod blank. Be sure to use only the citrus stripper and not some of the more harsh chemical types. I try to remove all I can with exacto blade being extremely careful not to cut into the blank. If there is not much present, I'll use a 320 grid sanding spounge (Sand paper would work too) to sand while turning the rod in my power wrapper. I like to use the corner or edge of the spounge to lightly sand only the residual epoxy. I then wipe the sanded area with a damp cloth or paper towel and allow to dry for several hours. Then coat the sanded area with permagloss. I allow the permagloss to dry overnight prior to re-wrapping the guides. I know there are seveal ways to accomlish this feet- This is the way I like to do it and I'm not about to say this way is the best,
