I'm looking for a site with pictures of all the varied fly rod grips, especially the fenwick and ritz styles. Naturally it would be nice if such a site had templates to copy. You don't often see the more obscure style grips for sale.
Without a template I find myself sanding in the dark. thank for any input. marc Re: Fly rod grips

Struble makes a Fenwick style they call "modified wells". Hook and Hackle has a picture of it on their website. You could print it out, blow it up to appropriate scale and make a template. Or just find an old Fenwick on @#$%& and do the same thing with a picture.
Rodmaker magazine is gradually, issue by issue, providing templates of all the popular and some not so well-known grips but only 2 have been released so far so you have to wait on that. Steve Re: Fly rod grips

Power Fibers (http://www.powerfibers.com/) had an interesting two part article on grips a while back that showed the evolution of grips. The author discussed the ergonomics of the various shapes. Included were several drawings of grips from a number of the masters, including the original Wells and Ritz. Re: Fly rod grips

Hi, Mark! We've got the Struble grip on our store as well...I meant to mention that to you other day (sorry!). I may have recently found a new source for these as well...I'll get back to you on it and see if I can send you a sample.
Talk at you later! :) Re: Fly rod grips

Thanks all...
fascinating stuff the history of fly angling... so many grips, so few blanks. actually I've now got a hankering for this handle. The diameter is too small for my blank since it accomadates up to .380 the blank I'am building is .384 [www.jannsnetcraft.com] now if i could find this exact pattern, trace it, then build slightly larger with my own cork rings - maybe some of those kewl burnt cork rings from andy dear - that would be a sweet handle for an 8'6" 3wt. btw, I've only heard about Andy Dears cork rings have not yet seen them. When last I logged on to his site I couldn't locate any cork ring images. where oh where could they be? Thanks Steve for the struble modied wells grip information. John i reckon I'll probably go with it for the FT 8wt. later this summer. thanks again. marc Re: Fly rod grips

WoW!
nice job John. thanks for the image. i've used the anglersworkshop burl and it is fine, very tough stuff. Is Andy's burnt cork strong. by that i mean can you use it on the ends and not fear chipping, degrading etc. funny how the DC blanks have the logo/lettering prepositioned. so that if you make a short handle the lettering is quite-aways up-rod. marc Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
