What's a line tamer?

Could someone explain to me what a line tamer is (vs. a stripping guide)? Or is it just the term for the second stipping guide? If you only have one stripping guide, will your line be untamed? I keep reading this term and am unsure what it means.

Another stripper guide used about 4" from the first stripper. It is said that it helps to tame the line
