I'm getting requests for rods made specifically for casting the huge plastics (Bull Dawgs, etc) for musky. One customer asked about having it made from a "back-bouncing" blank because it was rated from 2 to 6 ounces. I have never dealt with "back-bouncing" blanks, but I don't believe they are really designed to "cast" 6 ounces, are they? I thought that in back-bouncing the weight and lure was lowered into the current and the rod was lifting and dropping the weight. Not casting that kind of weight. Am I correct? If so, any other suggestions for a Bull Dawg blank? Thanks! Re: Back Bouncing Blanks

The heavier back bouncing blanks might be capable of gentle casting of that much weight - the heavier ones anyway. They're not like Hot Shot blanks. They do have pretty beefy tips on them. I have used them for guys who wanted graphite bottom fishing rods and the really heavy ones do well for that. They're quite powerful. I guess I can see a back bouncing blank being used for big muskies, although it might not be my first choice.

Rogue rods makes a swim bait blank that is rated to cast lures of that size. Re: Back Bouncing Blanks
