What is the easiest way to remove a giude from an old rod. I want to use one for finishing practice. Thanks Tom Newbie.

I use a very sharp razor blade - very carefully. Cut along the side of the wrap, a little at a time. Then peal it off. The nail on a finger usually takes the rest off. Also heat will soften the rest if need be

tom make sure when you use the blade run it along the guide foot that way it wont interfer with the rod

I shave off a part of the wrap on top of a guide foot, so the razor blade cannot touch the blank. Then peel off the epoxy with a thumbnail. Try to get a hold of the thread once some of the epoxy is off; you should be able to pull it out from under the epoxy. Once there is a gap under the epoxy it can be thumbnailed-off easily. Removing the last bit of epoxy from the ends of the wrap can test your patience. Use a hair drier to warm and soften it, and then scrape with a fingernail or credit card. Epoxy binds really well to some (at least one type) of blank surface, better than the blank surface binds to the graphite - I hope you don't have that situation!

You are thinking correctly about giving this a try. I think all "newbies" should remove a guide they have put on, just to see how strong the wrap is.
