Just wondering what builders think would be stronger When Wrapped on a blank?
A casting guide with the thread laying over two feet, or a single foot fly guide wraped with the Fohan Wrap. 3-5 turns around the upright post that holds the ring Re: Whitch do you think is stronger cast - fly with forhan wrap

Stronger in what way? If you're worried about snagging a guide and pulling it out, then the single foot with Forhan wrap will prevent this moreso than a casting guide which can crush and compress, pulling one and then the other foot out from under the wrap. Of course, if you're talking about really heavy frame double footed casting guides, you'll play heck crushing such a guide.

Tom Thinking of side to side. My thinking is that the casting guides have the threads wraped only laying on two feet. They do have more braces on them, Where as the fly, yes only one foot, but with the forhan wrap, would be stronger. Then of course I am thinking of the spiral wrap. I was looking to put the line a little closer to the blank. Re: Whitch do you think is stronger cast - fly with forhan wrap

You can also bend and reshape the legs on a double foot guide to make it sit lower to the blank.

Thanks Tom, did not think of that, guess a fly, even a heavy duty is not good. Re: Whitch do you think is stronger cast - fly with forhan wrap

Thinking about that, Dont like the idea of bending and reshaping a guide that much. Minor cracks that are not seen and then guide failure?? Re: Whitch do you think is stronger cast - fly with forhan wrap

Closer to the blank where? If you use single foot ceramic fly guides from the transition out your about as close as you can get. Go ahead and use the locking wrap there. The height of the guides for the transition are dependent on the reel and the number of guides you chose to use. I think it could be done with single foot guides and no doubt has. The pressure on the side of one guide is really not as great as you'd think. if you can get the line to touch on or as close to the top or bottom of the guide ring, your on track.
