unibutt ferrule removal

i am working on fixing a teaser rod that uses a unibutt...the problem is that when the unibutt/ferrule was glued on it was off center just enough that it looks wrong as it doesn't line up with the butt wrap design or the single guide.....
is there a way to remove this unibutt ferrule from the rod blank....would hot water work or perhaps heating it w/a heat gun....i am not looking to save the unibutt ferrule....i just want it off so that I can redo it.

thank you

I have used boiling water (actually just off the boil) for removal of fresh Rod Bond. If you used Rod Bond, this method should work. Be patient as it may take several dunkings to get the job done. I used channel lock pliers with a towel to protect the object being removed.

If you don't need to save it, I'd spiral cut it off with a hacksaw or Dremel tool with a good cut-off wheel. Be careful not to cut into the blank. Spiral cut the ferrule and then insert a screw driver into the slot and pop it open. Go slow and work carefully. Shouldn't be too hard to remove.

Make sure to wear eye protection whenever doing this sort of thing. Small metal slivers and such will go flying. You don't want them in your eyes.

OOPS, didn't pick up on what you said about not saving the ferrule. If you don't want to save it, go the Dremel route.
