Question for you guys. The first fly rod I made (for myself) had a "matte gray"
finish. Now I'm comparing that blank with others and I'm wondering if a "matte" finish means NO finish? It almost looks like there's no finish there. If so, wouldn't the rod be more prone to scratches? I'm asking because I need to make another rod soon and one of the blanks I'm most interested in, though made by a different company, is also advertised as having a "matte clear" finish. Thanks. Ted,
You're OK "Matte " is a finish it's just not gloss. many prefer matte finishes Mike Re: Does "matte gray" fly blank=unprotected?

I think you'll be fine, you should notice less scratches on a matte blank. A blank doesn't need finish to protect it, it's just cosmetics. Spencer Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
