Thanks for the help with redoing my 1st rod, it came out great. I have been doing research on acid wraps and I'm redoing a 7'6' shimano compre flipping stick. The rod is telescoping I mesured where the transition guide would start and it is going to be 25" from the reel seat. This is a big rod and fast action so there is little bend in that part if any. I use the rod for bass and flounder fishing. I have already put on the other guides now I'm wondering if that it too much space to make it spiral Re: Spiral Wrap on a 7'6" flipping stick

I spiral wrapped a 7' 6" telescoping flippingstick and used one transition guide. On a rod that heavy, just turn the tip over. Works well that way without a lot of labor.
A word of caution, however, when adding guides on a telescoping rod. Sometimes, the guide will hit against the butt section when retracting. To prevent this, I add another dummy wrap behind the added guide. It doesn't have to be too much of a wrap; just something to block the blank. C2 Re: Spiral Wrap on a 7'6" flipping stick

Howard,
I have only done a few spiral wraps, and only one on a telescoping rod. What I did was collapse the rod fully and make a mark on the blank so I knew where this was. I then put the butt guide as close to that line as possible and did my spiral from there, And condisering that you dont have much bend in the blank out towards the tip I would say as long as the transition from top to bottom is finished in the slow section you should be alright. But to answer your question I do not think 25" is too far from the reel on a telescoping rod. Scott Sheets Re: Spiral Wrap on a 7'6" flipping stick

Thanks that makes me feel better. I just needed a little confirmation that I'm going the right direction. I already have the blank spaced out so that the blank will still telescope and I will go with one transition guide. I cannot wait to finish and go on with my next project Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
