Anyone know of a manufactured 7' or 7'6" 7wt. fly blank?

Thanks!

Matt P.

Matt,

I don't know of any 'fly rods' manufactured that way, but the 7' or 7'6" St Croix Avid spinning rods should work pretty well with a 7 wt line. The 7'6" 1/8 - 1/2 2 pc ought to do it pretty well if you want a fast action. For a more moderate action I'd probably try something in the Forecast spinning rods line. Also if you want a 1 pc moderate action the Crankbait rods from St Croix would work too.

Thanks,
Rick

Matt, think about getting a 5 piece 9' fly blank and dropping a section. Check the CCS Data website - link on the left - for some ideas on blank ERG and AA with dropped sections. Best, Ladd

Both Rick and Ladd give good suggestions. If you go the fly rod route with a section dropped, the only fly blanks that I am aware of that are fast enough to still give you a fast action rod in the shortened configuration, are the Five Rivers FT models. By shortening the rod from 9' to 7 or 7.5', you should end up with something still quite fast by fly rod standards, upper 60s or low 70s on the AA. Sounds like a fun project and a great small steam bass rod.

By the way, the Forecast F765-2 has penty of power to fish a 7wt. line if you aren't casting too far. It has a moderate-fast action though.
