Hello,

I have a little question about a lacquer. My problem is that after a short time of using rod I have noticed that under lacquer appeared some spots. It looks like bubbles/blebs. They are very small and I cant feel it under my fingers . only I am able to see them. additionally a lacquer have cracked/broken on assemble of "rings". I am very wonder of your opinion.

regards
Kryspin

The spots may be moisture?? Sounds like you are talking of underwraps? Testors is one paint many use. I spray with Plasti-kote. Not sure if it is a real lacquer? Maybe bad prep under the paint? Paint too thick? The type of paint you are using?

In fact this rod was not made by me. I have just bought it. Spots look like chafes if you know what I mean.
As I assume company who has made this rod use Only best components and lacquer to make up the rod.
The spots are quaite hard to see , I have found them by accident. You have to see on rods on right corner. But there is a plenty of them and they are not on all rods but on some parts. When rods was new there wasnt any spot like this. This is which I assume that its a lacquer problem but of course I could be wrong.

regards
Kryspin

If the finish is laquer. It could very well be cracking and even flaking off. Laquer is the stiffest and most brittle paint that is out there. Laquer cracks so badly that even car manufacturers stopped using it. It kept coming off the plastic bumper covers that are on just about every car and truck made today. Works great on sheetmetal panels that are stiff and dont flex but try and flex a laquer finish and you're asking for dissaster. Thats how it ended up with cars anyway I'm only guessing that a fishing rod that flexes constantly(HOPEFULLY) would be worse.

The lacquers that were used in the 1930-40's were that way. The paints that are used now a days are more like a urathane. . They are more flexable then the old stuff. The urethanes and polyurethanes are the thing now. Act like lacquers, fast drying and hard.
I wonder what he put on? The auto colors that I use from Plasti-Kote are I guess more like a urethane. They adhear well and are flexible maybe he used some K Mart special paint?? LOL
