I am looking at building a saltwater casting rod which will be used primarily for jig fishing from a boat or pier. I have built a couple of rods - both using rod kits. Does anyone have suggestions on components which would fit my needs? The choices of blanks, guides, etc. seem to be endless. I will be fishing in the northwest primarily for salmon using 10-20 lb line casting .5 to 3 oz jigs. Re: Saltwater Casting

I would contact Batson Rainshadow/Forecast. I bought three blanks from Richards Rod and Reel that were Forecasts...good blanks at a very good price. Either the folks at Batson's or Richard will tell you what blanks to order. However, they may all be at the rod show this weekend.

Batson Enterprises. Rainshadow SW series or SU for surfcasting. They also have some new heavy blanks that are fiberglass. I'd stay with the graphite. I use the SW967 8' 1 pc -- there is a new 967F which is a 2 piece. Tosses 3/4 - 4 oz. Great Rod.
