Looking to make a conventional set up out of this blank. 11" rear grip and 5"-6" fore grip. Gargia 5500 probably with 15lb. It will be used with small shad for stripers. Fishing still straight down or as a floater 40' behind boat. Fish may be in the tenns on up. What are your thoughts so far. Probably use conventional fuji guides. May need some help in how many and size.. I'm not really crazy. Thanks in advance. Bill Re: Making 9' 8wt for conventional

You're not the first to do this and I hope you're not the last! These are a blast! I've used 3, 5, and 9 weights for this so far, but I hope this helps. It would help if you could tell me the blank company, blank series, etc. You should try these for light surf casting. It's a blast! Anyhow, I've found that a spiral wrap works very well on most fly blanks when converted to conventional. That guide wrap system shines incredibly on fly blanks! I use between 8 to 11 guides in the spiral wrap depending on the blank stiffness, action, etc. Generally, if you space the guides as you would with a fuji spinning guide concept, then convet to spiral guide placement, you should have approximately the correct amount of guides. However, the blank's character will determine the final amount. If you could supply the info requested above, it would help to focus future replies. Cheers!
