I'm trying to figure out the best way to mount the reel seat so the epoxy doesn't flow down into the butt section where the detactable fighting butt goes. I'm thinking of smearing the fighting butt with vaseline and hopefully this will stop the epoxy from bonding to the butt. I would greatly appreciate your thoughts on this or any other suggestions

Mike,
Have you considered using Rod Bond? It stays where you put it and provides a great bond. I'd recommend switching to it for many rod building applications. Herb Re: mounting Struble reel seat

Try J-B Weld. Or ... SuperEpoxy made by PC-7 is possibly the same formulation as Rod Bond and you can find it in discount stores cheap. Re: mounting Struble reel seat

Hey Mike,
Let me make sure I have your question right. You put epoxy on the blank and want to slide the reel seat up the blank with out getting epoxy into the open end of the blank? If so, I would just go right ahead with the epoxy you've got. A thicker epoxy isn't going to help any when you've got the reel seat acting like a scraper moving the epoxy around. I would just slide the seat into place and clean out the end of the blank with an isopropl alcohol soaked cotton rag. Mark Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
