How about some fishing advise. I'm visiting Long Beach this week and may have a chance to sneak out for an afternoon of fishing. Any suggestions for this east coaster. Thx in advance for your replies.

Hi Ken

Just called one of my skipper buddies in LB. It is kind of a mixed bag. Some Calico and Sand Bass going on and a few halibut being caught mostly on the small side. Rock Cod doesn't open until 1 mar. I would bring light gear 10-15-20# and light action rods for throwing anchovies. Use 1/8 to 1/2 oz weights and maybe up to 4 oz double end sinkers for Halibut. The weather has been lousy and looks to stay that way until Wed. Any more questions just email me. If by chance you will be out here on 2 Mar. be sure and catch the Fred Hall Sportsman Show. It is like Toys-R-Us for fisherman, largest fishing show in the West. I will be there in World Wide Fish Mounts booth with Jim Upton of WW fame.

If you can make it down to San Diego, Call Seaforth Sportfishing, the Mission belle out of that landing has been catching nice yellowtail on the 3/4 day run.

Queens Wharf in Long Beach has some nice 1/2, 1, and 2 days ocean going vessles. They rent gear, but I'ld rather fish w/ my own.
