Removing/reshaping finished ferrule wrap

After applying the second coat of Flex Coat Lite to a ferrule wrap and turning it overnight, it has a slight bulge on one side of the cured finish (it looks like I let it sag a bit while it was curing). I'm hesitant to use a razor blade (as I would use to remove a finished guide wrap) for fear of cutting into the blank. As I see it, my options are: heat and (very carefully) cut off the wrap with a razor blade, re-wrap and re-finish, or grind the bulge down with a Dremel or file, then apply a thin coat of Flex Coat. I could live with the second option, if then finished wrap comes out symmetrical. Any suggestions? Re: Removing/reshaping finished ferrule wrap

I need to add that I don't have a lathe. I just have a 5 rpm turning motor. Re: Removing/reshaping finished ferrule wrap

Try 220 than 400 sandpaper on a piece of flat wood or your file, no need for anything but hand turning. A file or Dremel will leave scratches in the Flexcoat you'll see later, I'd give the finish a couple days to cure or the finish will not sand smoothly. It will "pill" , come off in little balls instead of fine dust. Spencer Re: Removing/reshaping finished ferrule wrap

I would also up your turning speed. That is probably why it saged. To slow and gravity pulled on the finish. Or put less on and do more coats Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
