reel seat designation

What does the u-3, u-5, u-8 mean on reel seat hardware - I can figure out the uplocking, but do the numbers refer to size? And are they standard across makers? Recently, there were reel seat inserts for sale on @#$%& that the ad said would fit H&H u-5 but not Pac Bay u-5. Could someone explain? Re: reel seat designation

There are no standards for reel seat sizing or nomenclature. What you're looking at are manufacturers' own numbering system. Some may be similar, but there is no guarantee.

OK, is the u-3 bigger around than the u-5? Is the u-8 bigger than the u-5? Within a brand? Re: reel seat designation

I have no idea. You'd have to ask the manufacturer. The only thing you can count on is that with the Fuji styles seats, the number refers to the inside diameter in mm, so a 20 is larger than a 16. A good system that more should adopt.
