I posted the worst case scenario thread. I was wondering, would your same advice apply when using Flex Coat Lite. Thanks for all your help, Bruce Re: flex coat lite

Pretty much the same advice, except that FC Lite is not as thick as the regular stuff, so may have better handling qualities and be easier to apply when the room is cold. You are likely to need two coats, but that's ok. Re: flex coat lite

I work with my room above 70deg, and FCLite stays pretty thin. I usually apply 3 thin coats.

Get your room warm. Then use Crystal Coat for your next rod. Re: flex coat lite

I have been finishing in my living room this winter where it's warm , and doing multi piece rods because my shop is in a basement . Last week I had a 10 1/2 ft rod to finish , so I did it in the shop with FC lite . The temp was 58 deg when I started and 65 when I left ,55 the next morn . The job came out flawless and took 2 solid days to dry totally tac free . I don't quick heat the epoxy in the microwave before I mix it , I simply shove it in my drawers for 15 or 20 min , then it's a good temp to mix. Works for me .................... JD Got Fish ? Thanks, John. As far as I'm concerned you can warm your epoxy anyway you prefer. I cranked my heat up this morning before I left my apartment. Tonight the first coat goes on no matter what. I'll make a 1/2 turn every 15 minutes for 3 hours and tie some flies. Thanks again, Bruce Re: flex coat lite

Bruce: Make that half-turn a lot more often at the start, every few minutes. Then gradually increase the interval as the epoxy starts to set. You will know when to turn at the begining when the epoxy starts to sag on the bottom, you may want to remove the excess that collects this way with a brush or spatula (I do). Later, you won't see much if any sag, that's when you increase the turning intervals. Also, watch that the epoxy doesn't start to creep up the guide foot towards the ring, remove any excess there with a toothpick or pin. Re: flex coat lite
