To Dealers - Allstar?
I need a four piece heavy saltwater for back packing in the outback of Alaska. Ok to have metal ferrules, but would rather have glass to glass . Need suggestions as soon as possible please? Re: NEED A BLANK SUGGESTION AND LOCATION PLEASE!

Depends on how heavy you want and whether you need glass, but a fast action 12 weight fly rod blank might be a good rod.
Sections would be about 28.5" in length for a 9 foot rod, very packable. Otherwise, it'll be tough to find a four piece in a heavy configuration. Re: NEED A BLANK SUGGESTION AND LOCATION PLEASE!

Tiger Eye's 9'0" 12 weight would be a good rod for not much $$$. I think they run about $75 for the blank.
A 12 weight fly rod is considered a good tarpon rod or even heavy salmon rod, so unless you plan on getting into some halibut, the rod would be plenty for the fish-fighting. However, in terms of throwing lures/bait, I wouldn't go over about an ounce on a 12 weight rod. Ideally, you'd throw lures in the 1/2-3/4oz range. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
