thread finish touching the rod blank?

Well guys i have all my wraps done and colorpreservative on it but can the finish touch rod blank? if not how would i apply it to my butt wrap? Re: thread finish touching the rod blank?

I think you'll want the finish to overlap the end of the wraps and onto the blank itself by a little bit.

A bit of overlap is necessary to seal the wrap and prevent moisture from migrating from the blank into the thread wrap under the finish. The amount of overlap is a prime topic of discussion as there is no blanket rule although most agree that the edge of the overlap should be as even as possible for esthetic purposes. well you see i have a diamond wrap with spaces inbetween them should i also coat this area wih finish??? Re: thread finish touching the rod blank?

I would vote yes, cover the entire butt wrap area just as if it had an underwrap.

ahh thank you =) thanks for your help guys especily with the quick results i only posted this message about 15 min ago by the way tom great book i used it to build my first rod
