I am wanting to make my own rod grips, what is a good way to keep the rings in line without the rod blank being in the cork ring? I am wanting to make a eva foam fighting butt and if it is on the blank i cannot figure out to shape and form it to my needs without leaving ahole in the center. I have a cork ring clamp.
I want to say "THANK YOU" to all those who have been there to answer my questions. I am hooked on rod building now, I didn' know one could come with so many excuses , so he can build a new rod. Thanks again: Richard Re: Cork Grips

You can put all of them, save for the last one, on a mandrel. Then cap the end and put the whole thing in your cork clamp. Slip the mandrel through the lathe headstock until only a short section is protruding from the chuck and turn without the tailstock in place. See the Volume 5 #5 RodMaker for a photo pictorial on how to turn such grips and butts.
