Cleaning decals before applying finish

Is it ok to use alcohol (ther kind you buy at hardware stores, denatured, I think? Cannot remember) to clean the surface of a holographic style fish decal before applying finish? Have accidentally smeared acetone on one before and ruined it. Have quit using acetone per the warnings seen here since and have switched over to alcohol.

Scott don't think I would use alcohol either. What I do is dust with a 1" wide brush prior to applying finish and never use any chemical. Regards......Doug@ TCRds Re: Cleaning decals before applying finish

I agree with Doug; I could see where handling the decal prior to placing (and even after placing) that if you got oils off from your fingers onto the decal, it could pose a finishing problem with fisheyes. Best to tackle this by following the usual washing and even a bit of rubbing alcohol on the hands before touching the decal. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
