I bought a new bottle of 811, and it is thick. The bottle says thin with alcohol, should I use just rubbing alcohol or denatured? How thin should I make it? I don't think it will soak in as thick as it is.

I had the same problem and it didn't soak in completely. A couple of wraps were ruined. I put just a small amount of denatured in and it seem to help. Be careful you can get it too thin.

There's been posts on the board recently saying that 811's thickness seems to vary from batch to batch, too. Some have 811 that can be used directly. The last one I got has to be thinned.

Either get a bigger heater for your shop or move furthur south!! The cold wind and rain in your yard makes a lot of stuff thick and gooey!! Also try a big swig of Jack Daniels before you breathe into the pan of finish. This weather has got to end soon. To cold to finish outside and there is no water in the marsh with the north wind blowing. Maybe you should swap working areas with Lois - you take the embroidry room and put her in the outside shop.

Bill, I don't think it's the cold, it was like half set jello when I got it home from Academy. I don't want to be any further south, either. I like it right here so I can come bug you every once in a while.
The JD sounds like it might work, but trading spaces with Lois would never fly. My shop's not big enough for her sewing equipment.
I just thinned some with denatured alcohol, and it went on pretty smooth, and bubble free. I hope it protects the thread from getting darker, though.
I almost chickened out and went with Flexcoat cp again, but I figured if it messed up I would get to practice a little more.
