I was hoping someone may have constructed this particular fly rod blank and know the guide placement measurements.
this is the Rainshadow RXF866 a two piece blank of 8'6" wt 6 I have TLSG Fuji Concept single foot guides in sizes 10, 8,7, and 6's with a 7mm tiptop. for a stripper i have a double footed #12 I hope to preform a static guide placement test as described in the library, but a close approximation for guide placement would be helpful. thanks for this excellent forum. you can view my flyrod construction progress @ [www.mind.net] cheers! marc Re: fly rod progress and guide placement question...

There are plenty of places that publish guide spacing charts. A good place to start is REC's web site, although some rod companies also make spacing charts available too.
Good wraps! Tim Hough Re: fly rod progress and guide placement question...

thanks Tim ...
yes REC had a guide spacing chart for my blank length and line weight. Re: fly rod progress and guide placement question...

Marc, I'm impressed with your handle work and your website in general. I have one question though...The little worried shrimp you placed in your handle assembly; is that removable or is it just a good luck token? I would think that it would rattle around inside the grip if left in there. The item itself looks quite nifty and would look good on someone's fishing hat. It's a great logo. Just a dumb question from a yank, no criticism intended. g'day, R. Laughlin Re: fly rod progress and guide placement question...

thanks for the question Rick.
the WS is merely a token - hat fodder. i created it years ago for a nefew to get him interested in nature and angling. I hope to complete a brief 'history of the worried shrimp' soon and include it on my blog as a seperate post. There is a bit of a yarn associatied with the critter and my world traveling commerical fishing adventures. I owe an explaination for my eccentric shrimp inclusions to anyone visiting my rod building projects. I include the WS to give the rod good luck and make them unique. I suspect many others will do the same with their own fly/lure creations. I snip the hook off before sliding it into the blank. There is enough fiber and such to make it a fairly compressed fit... so far no rattle, at least that i can detect above the rattle of my fly reel. Mostly i'm having fun trying out blogging. Since fishing has always been my thing I decided it would make a fine theme. I also insert as background imagery some of the books i'm muddling through. finally, for any interested, this is a photo learning experience. I'm utilizing a couple of coolpic nikon cameras, cp5400 (the wide angle shots) and for the macro work i use the cp4500. all shots are taken indoors during the day with the camera set on a tripod and the setting positioned on scene, museum mode. afterwards i do a little digital dark room processing with photoshop 7. later, if i ever get out on the water to fish i'll try and submit some fishing imagery. i need to get the kid at work to accompany me so he can catch the fish and i can do the camera work. marc forrest - aka TWS - feral son of oregon world traveled fisherman. ps: the way technology is progressing i hope some day we can create a mini digi camera mountable in a fly (e.g. the worried shrimp) capable of transmiting images up thru the - fiber optic? - fishing line... there by we could, when not catching fish for consumption, contribute to our knowledge and the health of our fisheries by preforming bio-assays on lake and stream, esturary and sea... Depending on the size of the fly, I'd say the technology is nearly there. Wireless would be even better than fiber optic mono. The most difficult part would be finding a battery and incorperating the unit into the fly.

Yes Mark... blue tooth and beyond.
please pardon my horrid spelling in the prior post. I've thought about the possiblility of casting to fish and recording their conduct for years. I believe we are on the cusp of such a thing. imagine surveying water with a fly rod, your fly a camcorder. marc Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
