If you were to build a spiral wrap rod for a left hander.......should the guides fall off of the left side of the blank...??
thanks, pb

Hi Pete,

It's your option. I spiral towards the handle side.

Pete,
As Hank said the side you place the guides on is optional. I'm left handed and use a right hand reel so the rod never leaves my left hand. On rods for myself I spiral to the right. I do alot of flipping so a spiral to the right seems better to me than crossing the line over the rod.

Baitcasters...to the side of the handle. Free spoolers...to the opposite side.

I do mine towards the handle of the reel. Mainly I do rods for bass fishing and this allows the rod to lie flatter on the deck of the boat.

Sort of what Doug said. I see most level wind reels spiraled to the right & non-levelers spiraled to the left. It's easier to level with your thumb when the line spirals to the left.

Oh & I'm left handed also.

Jay
