Fixed fighting butt

I am building my first fly rod (7 wt) with a fighting butt. I am probably going with a fixed fighting butt. I am looking for instructions on how to attach these to the rod/reel seat. Can I get some help? Is there a typical length for wt of rod? Thanks for instucting a newbie.

A 1.5" cork fighting butt will work great for that size of rod.
Just glue it on right behind the reelseat and directly to the blank.
Make sure that the blank goes in to the fighting butt at least 1"-- you don't want it popping off when you've got a decent fish on.

Kurt

I put fixed butts on most all my fly rods and glue them with Rod Bond directly to the blank as Scott says. They vary in size from 1 inch to 4 inches depending on the rod weight. Most all are wood that matches the reel seat

Open the link [www.fishingphotos.net] . The rod in the foreground is a 5 weight with a 1 1/2" butt and the other is a 10 weight with a 3 1/2" butt. Both have redwood reel seats and butts. The cork have been stained with Minwax cherry stain.
