I read somewhere that using color preserver on the quidewraps prevents the rod varnish to penetrate the thread thus not making a good bond with the blank. Any ideas on this thought? Re: color preserver

Epoxy and varnish do not "bond" to the blank to begin with. It is the thread that binds the guide to the blank. Color Preserver does not create an inherently weak wrap. Use it or not, it makes little difference to overall wrap holding power or strength.

i'm not so sure that statement is true when applied to varnish. i tried to strip a glass rod i had done a year ago with varnish and no cp. it was like t he varnish was welded to the blank. very hard ot get off even after applying heat. i had used man o war as a first coat and epoxy after. the epoxy came right off but not the varnished thread. it was a bear to get off. can't say any of what i said applies when color preserver is used.
