Is it OK to use 5 minute epoxy to attach your grip and reel seat? What I have is your basic stuff from the hardware store. It says it is water resistant, is this going to be durable enough over the life of the rod? Re: Epoxy for grip and reel seat

Pat,
Yeah it would probably be ok to use just make sure you can get the grip and handle on before it starts to set up, which isnt very long!! I use the 2 ton epoxy which takes longer to start setting up. Like I said i'm sure it would work but just make sure you have your ducks in a row my friend if/when you try it, but I would recommend getting some 2 ton or rod bond. Hope this helps, Noel Re: Epoxy for grip and reel seat

Yup ... ROD BOND !! I actually think you'll find RodBond will not only be a million times easier to work with, it costs less. The small package of RodBond will do many more rods than you'll get out of the expoxy. Re: Epoxy for grip and reel seat

I don't and wouldn't use 5 minute epoxy. It not only sets up quickly but it lacks the strength of 30 minute or longer curing epoxies. Bill Boettcher is giving you the best advice you'll receive on your question. ROD BOND! Stan Grace Helena, MT "Our best is none too good" Re: Epoxy for grip and reel seat

On the second rod I ever built, a 9'6" 7 weight, I tried 5 minute epoxy. The wood insert was a tight fit and by the time I mixed the epoxy, got interrupted and then tried to put the insert on, it would not go all the way. I ended up with a 9'4" rod. I never used the stuff again, only Rod Bond. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 01/31/2005 10:08AM by Gerry Rhoades. Re: Epoxy for grip and reel seat

if you like "life on the edge" use 5' epoxy. otherwise use slow set 30' epoxy. Re: Epoxy for grip and reel seat

I use Devcon 2 ton epoxy for grips and PC7 paste epoxy for reel seats. I really like the PC7 for reel seats because it has a long working life, dries rock hard in 24 hours, and is easy to clean-up. The Devcon 2 ton also dries in about 12-15 hours and is easy to clean up for cork grips.
