If I want to put color preserver on, (my wife likes the bright colors) I would assume that I put it on after I wrap the guides/butt before I put the wrap finish on. Am I correct in this? Also, how long should I wait in between these steps?
Thanks, Dick Re: color preserver

I drug this up using a search on "Drying Time".
Putter Posted by: Tom Kirkman (---.152.54.240.Dial1.Atlanta1.Level3.net) Date: November 20, 2004 09:51AM I use only one application, a pretty heavy one. I put on enough so that the threads turn uniformly dark (they come back up once dry) but not so much that the stuff runs and sags on me. Don't brush it around - it tacks up fast. Load your brush, hold it above the wrap, lower it to the wrap, revolve the rod 360 degrees underneath it. Dip the brush in more 811, move over one brush width, and repeat. If you choose to use 2 applications of 811, a few hours apart, you won't hurt anything. I generally wait at least overnight before applying finish. Re: color preserver

Yes, CP goes on after the wrap is complete and threads are packed tight and burnished. Also, once you put on the CP, you will have great difficult moving the guide to brng it into final alignment, so make sure you wrap all the guides on a section and get them aligned before you use CP. When you put on the CP, make you you really flood the wrap, then wick off any excess. The thread needs to be thoroughly saturated for you will get fairly ugly blotches when you apply the finish. The best thing to do is some test wraps on a scrap blank with and without CP and with the finish. Then you can see just how much difference there is.
When I use CP, I usually wait until the next day, but that's usually just because I tend to wrap guides at night. I'm sure that's longer than necessary Re: color preserver

Date: January 30, 2005 08:00PM Thanks Putter, So the brush never actually touches the threads I take it. Is 811 a brand name? Dick Re: color preserver

811 is Gudebrod's CP. 811 is clear, the Flexcoat CP is milky. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
