Hi, I'm new to this activity, but learning a lot from all you folks.
I've got a dark brown blank, and I want to use chrome guides. What I don't want is the look that I sometimes see when the thread turns translucent, and the guide feet are very visible under the wrap and the wrap finish. What I'm thinking is that I can take a dark magic marker or something similar, and color the guide feet so when I apply the finish, they won't stand out so much against the blank. Is there any reason why this wouldn't work, or what other alternatives do I have? I've tentatively ruled out CP, because I like the way the thread I'm going to use looks without CP. Thanks for any input. Tom Re: Camouflaging guide feet

If you can find some NCP thread that matches the color you want, that would be the easiest, maybe not the quickest if you have to order it. If not, use a permanent magic marker. Re: Camouflaging guide feet

I think I understand. You want the translucent look of regular nylon w/o CP, but you don't want to see the chrome guide feet. Best way is to do as you have already said. Color the feet with a marker or paint. You might want to cover the colored area with CP or Permagloss before wrapping...this will help the marker to adhere to the feet and not be 'wiped off' by the thread. This should help camo the feet as they will still be visible. Jay Re: Camouflaging guide feet

When I have tried this the feet showed through anyway. I think the thread wiped off some of the magic marker. Re: Camouflaging guide feet

Tom,
What I've done for this situation is ruff up the guide foot area that will be covered with thread. I use Testers paint pens to color the feet whatever color needed. Let dry (I wait 24 hours) and cover the painted area with CP. Actually I use Gudebrod 1 part epoxy instead of CP. The 1 part epoxy has not been time tested for this applaction so I would CP just to be on the safe side. Hank On The Rocks Fishing Wells, ME. Re: Camouflaging guide feet

Thanks for the input. I'm sure one of these techniques will suit me; I don't expect the guide feet to disappear, just want them to not stand out so much. Re: Camouflaging guide feet
