Looking for Weaving Info

It seems that just about everything related to rod building - except weaving - can be found here and other places on the Web. I just completed my first rod (9' 8wt fly) with 2 color wraps, static guide placement, etc and a wrapper and motorized dryer with info I found here. However, I can't find a single "open" source for doing anything fancier with regards to weaving! I would like to try a really simple weave. I could order one of the various books or videos but I am a bit impatient and I did buy a book on rod building but to be frank, the info I found here as well as answers to my questions here far outpaced what the book was able to provide. Not that it was a waste of money, but it really was not needed.

So, is there any info on how to get started with a really simple weave anywhere?

regards,
Michael

Thanks John, Unfortunately VisualWrap does not work on a Mac. I find it very interesting that I can find info on almost any esoteric hobby I have somewhere on the web except for decorative rod wrapping.

RodMaker Magazine has had several good and detailed articles on weaving and color change weaving. I doubt you'll get that kind of in-depth information anywhere on the web.

Michael; I would suggest that you contact one of the sponsors on the left here and get a copy of Doc Ski's weaving video. Or as Tom suggests get the back issues of RodMaker Magazine with the basic weaving articles in them.

Another vote for the video by Doc Ski, much easier to see someone doing it than from pictures. If you don't use a weave loom, email me at sdrodblder@aol.com

Does Doc Ski's video only come in VHS format? It figures that I only have dvd. Also, I noticed that he has 2 videos - which is the best one to get.

Mud Hole has just added some great weaving patterns to our web site at:
[shop.mudhole.com]

Second to Doc's Ski's video:
[shop.mudhole.com]

Also Visual Wrap:
[shop.mudhole.com]

If you make is the the Charlotte show, the software author for Visual Wrap, Mr. David Boyle will be in attendance and demonstrating his software - this a great chance to learn weaving first hand.

Yeah, I just called my sister in law, she has a vcr so I should be all set! Oh well, so much for high tech! I like the convenience of being able to play a dvd on my laptop while I follow along. It worked for fly tying!

cheers,
Michael

I've just started learning to weave and used Jim Upton's article ( RodMaker Vol 5, Issue #4) as a guide. It was a highly useful article for me. There is a print error (in line 13.) of the left list for "skull & crossbones" pattern, corrected in Vol 5, Issue # 5.

RodMaker Volume 6, #5 also has a good article by Mr. Upton.

Wove my first pattern today, and am pleased with the results - thanks to the articles

As far as I know, Visual Wrap does not have any weaving capabilities at all. The software is designed for Decorative thread wraps (For which it is super)
