Anybody used acryllic for Rod Handle?

I was thinking of using some acryllic blanks, the kind the pen turners use, as a decorative in my fly rod handles. Perhaps in place of the first and last cork ring. Has any one ever attempted this? I have two questions: (1.) Can acryllic flex enough without cracking, and (2,) can acryllic stand up to the elements (heat/cold?)
Also, should I turn the acryllic on a mandrel with the cork rings to be mounted directly on the rod; Should I "pre-turn" the acryllic; Or should I bore out the acryliic and shim with cork or a Flex Coat arbor? Or, is it a stupid idea and I should forget the whole thing. Could n't find anything in the archives. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks Re: Anybody used acryllic for Rod Handle?

I've been using it for 15 years now. Works great, looks great. It's heavy so use it sparingly. No, it doesn't flex much, at least not the types I use.
It's not prone to crack once you have it on the rod and scratches can be buffed out with blue Dico plastic polish on a loose wheel. Turning some types can be difficult and some cracking can occur with certain types. I pre-turn my pieces and then bore them to fit. .......... Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
