I bought two (2) Lamiglas obsolete blanks at the Orlando Conclave this past fall. GBT 821 H, 6'4", tip 5/32" tight 10, OD .875, pretty of butt. I want to build 2 rods for use with Penn 4/0 electric to fish in 150 to 200 foot max for grouper. Can someone give me some advice as to a good rod length, I currently use 6'6" Lamiglas C-527, 10"butt and 13" foregrip, and am very happy with the results. But untested in the greater depths and heavier fish. Thanks, Dan Re: Rod for electric reel

Personally I like a rod in the 5'6"-6' range for heavy, deep water fishing. I don't use electrics, but fish in 150-200' pretty much every trip offshore. Some people like longer rods if fishing from a party boat. I like an 8" rear grip and a 12" foregrip with a gimbal on the end. These lengths when combined with the reel seat give me a grip out to about as far as I can comfortably reach. I also normally use a Rod Huki which adds a couple of inches to the butt. Depending on how you hold the rod will have some effect on how long the grips need to be.

When I was bottom fishing with a Penn 4/0 Electramate reel I always used a rail plate which was placed about 10" forward of the reel. the Plate then rested on the rail of the boat while fishing but allowed the rod to be lifted if and when so desired. I always used a 6'6" broomstick rod for this purpose as it was strictly bottom fishing for fish that never pulled any drag. Re: Rod for electric reel

------------------------------------------------------- Nathan, Did you use a spiral wrap or conventional wrap with standard guides and a roller tip?
