I will be building a drying box, now. You see, I put the third and last coat of finish on a very nice rod at 1600 hrs. this evening. I went out to put it to bed at 2000 hrs. and realized that the dirty trays from last night calimari had drawn some bar flies, which . . . drawn by the light, had adheared to the not-quite-finished-finish. Tweezers got them off, but now I will be busy with some fine sandpaper and another coat of finish. Advice on where to buy reasonably priced plexiglass and any other tips on drying box construction would be most appreciated. Sometimes I am just such an *^%#^***!!! -- JC Re: Inlaid Bugs

I made mine out of screen door window or screen frames. I use tack cloth for the "screen" and replace it once a year. It protects the rod from all dust and those pesky bugs, yet it isn't "enclosed" and breathes. Just protects. I cut the frame pieces to size from junk screen doors and bought a roll of the rubber material to 'roll' in to hold the tack cloth in place. Works well for me! One on a piano hinge on the wall, another to set up against it on the table top.
Winter now, so I just have a piece of tack cloth over the furnace heat duct outlet and that keeps any dust from entering the room. Along with good cleaning, I haven't had any trouble in the winter leaving my rod turning in the open, now. Putter Re: Inlaid Bugs

Jim,
I am actually preparring to build another box myself. Check out the photos page and run a search on dryer box. There are a dozen examples there to give you some ideas. Can also run a forum search and see what comes up. Good luck, and if you come across the perfect design, let me know. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
