On an 8 wt. Sage VPS flyrod blank from the butt end, my guide sizes are #16, #12, #10, and then LSG-7J's to the tip. Here's my question. Should I go with high frame strippers (SVSG) or low frame strippers (LNSG) on these first three guides? Sage says go with low frames. Does it really matter, or am I just splitting hairs on this issue? I know somebody out there has had this dilemma. Re: High Frame vs. Low Frame Guides

It's been my experience that the high frame SVSG models stop the line from slapping the blank in those instances where your casting stroke or conditions might cause it to do so. But, if you stay with NSG low frame models, you'll still have a nice set up.

Go with the high-frame strippers, for the reasons that Tom gives. Another thing to consider is this: try high frame single foot spinning guides. It saves a little weight, and saves one wrap, all while giving you the advantages of the high frame guide. I've not used them on an 8wt., but I have single foot high frame spinning guides on a 7wt., and I'm very pleased with them. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
