Would someone please explain to me the difference between IM6 and IM7? The modulus seems to be higher on the IM7 around 47. Normally the higher the modulus the higher the price. If this is the case then why does H&H's web site price the IM7 lower than the IM6 in the 2 to 3 wt. classes, around the same in the middle wt., and only in the higher wt. does it become more expensive? Thinking of buying a 2 wt. and would like some advice. Tkx. Re: IM6 or IM7

The overall material cost in a rod blank is quite low. Rod blanks just don't require much graphite material to start with. The design, tooling, R&D, model popularity, etc., have a great deal to do with price, perhaps moreso than a slight difference in material cost. You've got a lot of factors that influence the final cost and while most companies do play on the idea that the higher modulus blanks represent a more "expensive" and "better" blank, it doesn't always mean you'll pay a higher price. Usually perhaps, but not always.

IM6 and IM7 have about the same modulus of elasticity, about 40 million. IM7 does have a little higher tensile strength though, 780KSI for IM7 versis 760KSI for IM6. Re: IM6 or IM7

I the IM7s are imported , and the IM6s are made in the USA , possibly cheaper to buy the 7s as imports ?? Bob has told me that the 7s are a bit faster than his 6s , and by the reading in the H&H page they are a little lighter weight . Both are a great deal , IMO. John Got Fish ? Re: IM6 or IM7

I believe the difference is just as John stated - H&H's IM7 are imported and the IM6's are made in the US. But going along with that I believe the IM6's have a lifetime warranty and the IM7's do not. Those 2 things I believe are what account for the higher price. I am currently building a H&H green IM6 fly rod. I think it is going to make a wonderful rod. But I'll bet the IM7 would be nice also.
