Dryer Motor Speed

My current drying setup uses two 5 RPM motors. I have read that ~18 RPM is a recommended speed. As I consider changing my motors I have found two motors that meet my price expectations. One is 12 RPM, and one is 30 RPM. If given the choice between the two, which speed would you choose?

Thanks,
Jeff Shafer

Mine is a 6 RPM...Seems to work fine.

If you had to go with a new one...the 12 would probably be better.

I have an 18 rpm motor now but to me it is somewhat fast. The first one I had was a 3 rpm and I really liked it.

I have found that 18rpm is a good all around speed if you use a variety of finishes. If you only use one type then you can probably fine tune the speed to your finish. Thinner finishes that tend to be a little runny do better with higher speeds while thicker finishes get by fine on slower speeds. I guess 18 gets recommended because it's sort of an all around speed that works with most any finish type.

Sorry for the multiple posts. Each time I attempted to post, I received an error message, and my post didn't appear. Anyone know why this might be happening?

I have the 30. But have it geared for two speeds. I use the faster to put finish on long butt wraps , then the slower for the guides Can be seen on the photo page under willierods
