I am a beginning rod builder and I am stuck! I have finished everything except putting finish on the wraps. I have Flex coat one coat finish and I also have the new new Flex Coat lite finish that is two coats. Which would be the best for me to start with? Somebody please HELP!

As far as I know, Flex Coat doedn't make a 1 part finish. I don't think that anyone makes a one coat wrap finish (epoxy) Wrap finishes are 2 part and need to be mixed in EXACT amounts. The Flex Coat lite is what you want to use. Mixing/measurement is critical.

Go with the one coat for now , if you want a heavier coat you can use the Flex Coat lite over the one coat finnish after it dries, or even apply another coat or so of one coat , to get the desired efect.

now i'm new too, but might i suggest something? whichever finish you decide to use, i'd say continue using it for a few rods until you become familiar with its results and characteristics.

Several years ago someone did make a "one part" finish and I think it was Flex Coat, but it might have been Gudebrod. I used it on a Sage LL fly rod. I put on two coats and had to redo them less than 2 years later. The stuff was absolute junk.

Easy answer to an easy question. Go with the flex-coat lite and plan on about 3 or maybe even 4 coats. Lots less chance of bubbles and you get a couple of chances to "fix" it if things are not perfect.
