Would Xcel 12/13wt make good surf plugging rod?

Am I correct in assuming that it would have a sweet spot around 1oz? Would a fly blank just snap if you put 1-1/2oz on and swung hard? Re: Would Xcel 12/13wt make good surf plugging rod?

Not if it's the right rod to handle that much weight. However, fly rods aren't likely to make good plugging rods. The actions aren't fast enough. You can do much better with a fast taper steelhead or heavier hot shot blank. And, there are plenty of good plugging blanks avalable.
Take a hard look at some of the GUSA Surf Assassins. Great plugging rods. If you plan to be in town for the National Rod Builders Show, expect to see hundreds of saltwater surf and plugging blanks on hand. Great place to pick up a few and give them a shake. .............
