I just received a broken rod from a customer- the dreaded car door did it again. It broke 3-4ins down from the tip of the butt. I've shipped it back to Loomis. My question is what should I charge if any thing. The sad part is the butt had a name weave, a fish weave and a butt wrap. I was just curious what the consensus of all your opinions would be on this. Thanks to all that reply! Re: Broken rod redo

Well, it didn't break due to defect in parts or workmanship - the customer broke it and admitted it. I think I'd have to charge him at least whatever Loomis charges you for the new blank or blank section, plus shipping and then whatever you feel is fair for you to rebuild the rod for him. I generally charged about 1/2 labor rate for that type of thing if it was a good customer than I wanted repeat business from. You don't make as much, he eats a little bit for his carelessness and everybody hopefully comes out okay in the long run.
