Just wondering what RPM you guys power wrap at in general? I basicly use my homemade wrapper with a 6 RPM motor.

I didn't know anyone used a direct drive motor to wrap with, I only use mine for drying. I use a variable speed motor for wrapping, sometimes turning the rod by hand and other times wrapping at maybe 100 RPM on longer butt wraps or underwraps.

I don't think you want to use a single speed motor to wrap with.

Actually I have built over a dozen rods with this method.

Have accually went back to turning my rods by hand, after making my own rod machine that i now only use for long under wraps. I think the quality of my work has now improved, also my attention to details

Randy,

You're actually wrapping thread at 6 rpm?? I would think that it would take an awful long time. How do you control it while you are wrapping thread? Does it have a foot control?

Are you talking about wrapping thread or drying finish?

No foot control. Have it set up on a switch on the front of my wrapper. When I started building rods over 2 years ago I didn't have all the info I have now so this was my first power wrapper. Yes it is slow but it has worked fine for me but I'm wanting to pick the pace up a little since my skills have went up. I'm thinking of building a new wrapper similer to the one in last issue of RodMaker mag. It seems to me that sewing motors put out alot of RPM even with a foot control. Just trying to get a feel of what I want to do. Just not selling enough to justify a new high doller lathe.
