Wow, this is a pretty in-depth topic, but your understanding of the charts is correct. Also, keep in mind blanks are like snowflakes.....no two alike so that is a reason for static testing and test casting. The charts are OK for starters, then through your testing and such can improve upon them. There have been tons of posts on this topic, I have been away from the forum for a year or so, but I would search for "new concept", or "guide placement" or "guide spacing". Should cover everything you need to know.
Search through that, if you still have questions, post what kind of rod you are building, what purpose, usages and specs and everyone here can help from there. Don't mean to push you off to searching, but a book could be written right here on the forum covering this topic.

On a multi-piece rod I always put a guide on the female ferrule. This makes the static distribution a lot easier since you already know where several guides will go.

Jon,
"Blanks are like snowflakes, no two are alike". That is a great line that I am going to have to remember. Can I quote you?
