OK guys, I have been told by a couple of people that thread color and strengh will degrade over time when exposed to light. Is this so, and if so how much over what period of time in indirect light.
Got a real nice wall mounted thread rack for Christmas and now Iam worried a bit.. Thanks Tom Church Re: Thread and light

The top threads will fade. If this happens you can strip off the faded thread and the rest of the thread on the spool will be unfaded.
You could mount the rack on the inside of a cabinet door if you're really worried. Kevin Re: Thread and light

Tom,
Light will affect the threads we use. I've been thinking about one of those racks along with the idea I would attached a dark heavy cloth over the top and hook it on the bottom. Something cheap that would look OK. I've never had a good place to store thread where you could see all the different colors at one time. Larry R. Tysinger Re: Thread and light

I keep my spools in Plano boxes and store those in a closet.
No light problems, no dust and very nicely organized. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
