There is an old saying around these parts that says that the only thing saltwater doesn't corrode is saltwater. With that in mind, on the few fly rods that I have built for myself, I have used Fuji seats. However, I would like to build some rods with fancier seats...something that I could pass on to my yet unborn grandkids. I really do like the Fujis but they are rather dull. Any suggestions will be appreciated. These rods will be used primarily for saltwater fishing.

Ellis,I am sure you are probably referring to the hardware used.If not, please correct me. There are Titanium seats from several manufacturers. Some might just be plating and another may be from titanium bar stock.I think Struble's is from the latter.Maybe you can get something in skeleton form or just dress up a Fuji.A wood insert would be nice and Tom Kirkman has done a piece on them for Rodmaker Magazine. Perhaps you could dress up the hoods by marbelizing them.It doesn't even have to be marbelized, but be a solid color. You could even do the threaded portion that way.
Best wishes, Chuck Re: Question for Tom K. et al on fly rod reel seats

Thanks Chuck,
I got my magazine in the mail today and just read about marbelizing the Fuji reel seats. First I have to figure out how to trim them on my little lathe. While house cleaning today I found an old box with several bottles of Testors paint with which I can practice. I also received some catalogs that carry woven reel seat inserts in different colors.
