I'm looking at building a new fly rod for myself in a 9 ft., 4 weight, 2 piece configuration. Can anyone offer up any comments on the Rainshadow RX8 Xcel blank?

Thanks

Hmmmm... I was looking for a lightweight rod, but if you're saying it's actually heavier than a Gloomis GL3, I don't know if it's the rod for me because GL3's aren't that light to begin with. Anyone else have opinions or other blanks I should be looking at?

Mike, actually Loomis GL3 blanks are often very light weight. Check out the 8'6" 5 wt at about 1.3 oz if I remember right. Never a knock on GL3 weight only the fact that using the very thin walls they tend to split of break more easily then some. The xcel blank is very nice and overall pretty fast.

Does it have to be 2 piece? Check out Dan Craft's Five Rivers series. Very light.
