how to get a reelseat off after you have glued it?can anyone help? thanks

Several ways to do it, some will destroy it, others at least give you some possibility of saving it.

If you wish to save it, you can try putting the handle seat in a plastic bag and then boiling the whole thing in a pot/pan of boiling water. Sometimes this will break the epoxy bond and you can save the seat. If you're not dealing with a wood insert, you may even dispense with the plastic bag. Rod blanks are sensitive to heat and anything much over 220 degrees puts you into a place that can be damaging to the blank. Thus the boiling water - it allows you to manage the temperature in what would be considered a "safe" range.

Otherwise, spiral cut the seat with a hacksaw or Dremel tool with a cut-off wheel and peel the seat off. Wood inserts can be split with a hammer and chisel.

Exercise caution whichever route you take. Either method can injure you if you're not careful.

Salvaging a standard reel seat wastes more time than the reel seat is worth. If it is a special reel seat that you want saved then the time may well be worth it, but I usually cut them away. I use a hand held grinder to cut a slit into the hood and knurled nut, then use a screw driver to pry them off off. A handheld grinder is a very agressive tool so great care must be taken not to nick the blank. Then I use a propane torch to gently warm the reel seat and while warm use a utility knife to score the graphite material, and again using a screw driver pry it off. It take me less than five minutes to remove a reel seat this way.

The harden epoxy can be removed easily once the reel seat is out of the way. I have a way of removing this epoxy quicky too.

I've been asked by a friend to try and fix his rod for him.

The reel seat has come unglued and needs to be re-glued.

I've tried drilling small holes in the reel seat and injecting two pack, but it would seem that there is so much masking tape packing in there that there is not room for enough glue to do the job.

The rod is a one piece so the proper fix of removing the guides and fore grip and replacing the reel seat properly, then fitting a new pre grip and replacing the guides is a bit of a work up for a free job.

Does anyone have any bright ideas?
