For flyrods.
I've got a buddy whose wife is from Norther Thailand. Bamboo grows like weeds over there. In doing some searching, I've read that N. Thai bamboo is the best stuff out there for making flyrods. Anyone out there concurr? With labor being so cheap over there, and bamboo in such a supply, is there a market? I'm not interested in starting up a buiz venture, but am mearly asking for a buddy and possible a free supply of bamboo for myself. If there's anyone in the know, and interested, if could mean a free trip to Thailand. No promises, just doing some due dilagence. Also, curing, etc. infor would be appreciated. Re: Bamboo

All of this was covered in the series of bamboo rod making articles done by Russ Gooding and Bernie Elser in previous issues of RodMaker.
I think you're going to find that the particular bamboo strain you're talking about is not the most highly prized for making bamboo rods. And, there are already at least 3 good importers of quality bamboo for bamboo rod makers. Not trying to discourage you, but there is alot more to this than you currently suspect. ................. George I'm also curious about cane rods. I have a source of Tonkin cane grown here in Georgia. I have no idea if the quality of cane grown here is OK or not. The making of bamboo rod is something I may want to get into. Re: Bamboo

Thanks, I'll pass it on and may be picking up some old copies of the magazine. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
